We're just three weeks into 2021, and it's already a year of growth for the St. Petersburg dining scene. In the coming weeks, we can expect a handful of new joints, from fine dining to casual bites, to pop up in the 'burg. Those places includes Two Graces, Lingr, Sammy + Paco's, even a karaoke bar and restaurant Lala's (stylized "LALA's"). Come mid-March Mammamia's Gelato Italiano will be ready to serve up after-dinner delights or even just a frozen treat on a hot summer's day.

Located at 1691 Central Ave., the menu at Mammamia Gelato Italiano is a lineup of handcrafted gelato and sorbets. Expect to see non-dairy and vegan sorbet options as well. There's also a selection of waffles, pastries and decadent gelato cakes.

The dessert shop's brand originated in Naples, Italy and has franchise locations across the globe. Mammamia Gelato St. Pete's website says its local franchisees "both love the communal aspect of sharing food and have decided to use Mammamia Gelato St. Pete as a vehicle for giving back to their community and helping others through hiring the disabled and other under-employed people, and by donating a portion of their store’s profits to local non-profits."

To check in on the sorbet shop's progress, follow along on social media @mammamiagelatostpete. More details to come as the joint nears its grand opening.
