Art-inspired cocktails and more help celebrate Global Day of Discovery locally

Renaissance hotels in St. Pete and Tampa to host Day of Discovery events driven by arts and culture.

Cocktails influenced by the arts, salsa dancing and Latin dishes are some of what to expect during the region's upcoming Global Day of Discovery celebrations.

Held every year, Global Day of Discovery aims to encourage Renaissance hotel guests to leave their rooms and uncover what the city they're staying in has to offer, but its events are also open to the public. The Renaissance Tampa International Plaza Hotel and Vinoy Renaissance Resort & Golf Club are among the 160 participating hotels in 35 destinations.

In downtown St. Pete, art-inspired tastes and local artists will drive the Vinoy's bash — which is in its fifth year and themed "From Palette to Plate" — from 6 to 9 p.m. June 16. Attendees can expect exhibits and three art-makers, including muralist and clay artist Derek Donnelly, plus four food stations with specialty cocktails, inside Marchand's Bar & Grill. Their $19.26 admission also gets them musical stylings by La Lucha.

The third annual celebration at the International Plaza hotel runs a little longer that night, from 7 to 11 p.m., and is set to feature salsa performances, professional lessons and DJ Koki tunes to honor Tampa's local culture. Latin-inflected cuisine and cocktails will also on hand, and the $15 door cover includes everything but the food and drink.
