There’s a new place for Latin-inspired desserts in Ybor City.
Owner Joseph Palau (pictured) takes the locally hand-crafted, artisan flan recipes he learned from his abuela and opened his first brick-and-mortar Flan Factory location over the weekend. He started the business in 2016 as a tribute to her after her 2014 passing. Prior to opening the storefront, he worked the local weekend markets where his flans were always a hit with customers.
Flan Factory serves about 30 flavors of flan including original Cuban style, guava, and cinnamon espresso Thai tea. Also on the menu are an assortment of small bites, sandwiches, coffees, and cold drinks. A Facebook post mentions how insanely busy the opening weekend was from serving “400 flan, 200 sandwiches not counting the additional menu options”. The restaurant ended up selling out of everything and closing Sunday to regroup and prepare more food.
Flan Factory is located in Ybor City at 1718 N. Nebraska Ave. Stop by for the authentic Cuban dessert or more for breakfast and lunch Wed.-Fri. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sat.-Sun. 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
