What is America's obsession with bacon? Over the past two years, bacon has been elevated to some sort of food demi-god, especially here in the states, eliciting whole websites that obsess over it and outrageous culinary creations with bacon as the star ingredient (i.e.: The Bacon Explosion). What is it about this salty, fatty, crispy pork product that so many of us foodies revere as 'culinary crack'?
Maybe it's not the actual bacon but the flavor that gets people salivating over it. That's the thought that sparked an ingenious product due to the creators' belief that everything should taste like bacon: Bacon Salt.
I read about this product last year and have been jonesing to try it ever since. Fortunately, I happened upon it a few weeks ago while perusing Super Target and quickly snatched it up, knowing that fate had lead me to the spice aisle that day.
Bacon Salt is a zero-calorie, zero fat, vegetarian and kosher seasoning that makes everything taste like — you guessed it — bacon. What's great about it is that you can have the taste of bacon without the grease or guilt (especially if you're a vegetarian and miss the taste of bacon).
