The Rocky Point area of Tampa is getting a new waterfront venue in WTR Pool & Grill.

You know, the word “water” spelled without the vowels.

Doubling as a high-end dining destination and a spot for poolside lounging, WTR is scheduled to open to the public at 3 p.m. Sunday along the Courtney Campbell Causeway, adjacent to The Godfrey Hotel & Cabanas Tampa.

Soon to be formerly known as the hotel’s Beach Bar & Restaurant, the venue has undergone the first phases of an extensive renovation. Upgrades included an overhaul of WTR’s exterior, dining area and pool space. It’s revamped look is described as “upscale elegance with a coastal twist.”

WTR didn’t forget about the food and drink, either. Under the direction of a trio of new sous chefs, the menu blends fresh seafood from Florida waters with American fusion cuisine.

“Everything on our menu is completely new and innovative,” said Will Chamberlin, director of food and beverage at WTR Pool & Grill, in a statement. “Guests will now have a completely different, high-end dining experience and can even pick dishes from our new poolside menu featuring items that pair great with a dip in our pool.”

And when they get thirsty? Specialty cocktails, signature frozen drinks and spiked lemonades are on hand to cool things down.

“With healthy and fun dining and cocktail menus, a remarkable chef and an impeccable space, we are completely rethinking Tampa’s waterfront entertainment scene,” according to WTR brand ambassador Michael Piper. “We envision the glamour and buzz of a Vegas pool blended with the chill tropical vibe that you can only find in Florida.”

As far as the resort-style amenities go, several outdoor bars, a large lounging pool, a 20-foot hot tub and 16 private cabanas featuring TVs and power outlets are highlights of the venue.

WTR also aims to host events throughout the summer — including a resort wear fashion show, plus one for swimwear. Proceeds from both benefit a local nonprofit, Hope Driven Inc, that supports single parents in Hillsborough and Pinellas.
