Big Storm Brewery opening first Tampa location at the old Hamburger Mary’s in Ybor City

An oversized 5-barrel brewing system will also brew small batches of dark and barrel-aged beer.

Big Storm Brewery Co.—maker of beers like Bromosa and Palmbender IPAs—is opening its first Tampa location in Ybor City within the space formerly home to Hamburger Mary’s.

A press release says Big Storm is moving an oversized 5-barrel brewing system into the 11,000 square-foot space in Centro Ybor with plans to open by the end of the year. The brewery—which established its first location in 2012—also just opened a shop at Orlando’s Amway Center. The Ybor City taproom is Big Storm’s fifth Florida location, joining locations in Odessa, Cape Coral and Clearwater. Big Storm distributes beer as far as New Jersey and Ohio.

The taproom will have Big Storm’s core beers, but co-owner L.J. Govoni said the Ybor location—literally a block away from long-running TBBCo.—will also brew small batches of dark and barrel-aged beer with an emphasis on aggressive imperial stouts.

Beer isn’t the only lane for Big Storm swerves in either. The Clearwater location makes vodka, and produces and sells gallon-size hand sanitizer available to buy online. The company also just got in the hard seltzer game this year when “Storm Surge” came out in January with flavors like blackberry and grapefruit which infuse vodka, seltzer and fruit juice. And yes, the Ybor location will pour that Big Storm vodka and its Blood Brother’s Bloody Marys.

“We have long wanted to open an Ybor location and are excited to have finally found what we think is the perfect spot, in the heart of the district, overlooking East 7th Avenue,” Govoni added.
