In a shocking Facebook post, drunken late-night eatery Burrito Boarder announced that it will be closing for good Saturday, November 9.
"Attention !! Come celebrate the life of Burrito Boarder. We will be closing the store and turning off the lights for good Saturday," the post said before dropping a hint about "bigger and better things to come."
When CL called Burrito Boarder, an employee said that although Burrito Boarder is saying farewell, a replacement is set to fill the space at 17 3rd St. N.
During the phone call, the employee shared that the bare bones of Burrito Boarder will remain the same as far as staff and the majority of the menu goes (with the possibility of adding a few more orders and dishes) and that the restaurant will be changing its name to Grumpy Gringo.
According to the employee, the transition to becoming Grumpy Gringo would only take two weeks.
If true, the new spot would be Grumpy Gringo's second location in St. Pete. In May, CL published a post that detailed how Grumpy Gringo moved into the TacoSon space at 2510 22nd Ave N. Grumpy Gringo added healthy menu options and a refurbished dining area.
An employee at the 22nd Avenue Grumpy Gringo told CL that she had no knowledge of a second location and that a manager was not available.
We'll add more details as they become available.
As a last hoorah, Burrito Boarder will host Taco Tuesday specials on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., with $2 street tacos and $1 Bud Light drafts. Get your last bites and sips at the OG 'Burg build-your-own-burrito spot.
