The latest destination to join the dining brigade of Tampa's SoHo neighborhood has revealed a date — well, OK, four dates — for its grand opening.
With contemporary Peruvian and South American influence, Chakana SoHo will host a four-day opening weekend, starting with a private dinner Thursday. Friday will act as "grand opening day," while Saturday is set to offer a Copa America watch party for soccer buffs and Sunday will introduce brunch. White tablecloth-cloaked tables inside the part restaurant, part lounge at 223 S. Howard Ave. can be seen from the road.
The menu's divided into appetizers, salads and soups, ceviches, tiraditos, jaleas, and traditional Peruvian plates. Dishes like ají de gallina (shredded chicken, Peruvian yellow pepper, cream, milk, pecans, piso bread, Parmesan), pescado a lo macho (fried snapper, seafood sauce, white rice), jalea mixta (crispy fish, fried yuca, tartar sauce, South American salsa) and papas a la huancaina (potatoes, milk, cheese, Peruvian yellow pepper) are included on the lineup.
Chakana plans to operate 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
