If you live in St. Petersburg, there’s no missing the gas station-turned-Mexican restaurant on 22nd Ave. N.—especially with the life-sized plastic horses perched outside.
Restaurant and Mexican grocer Chile Verde Authentic Mexican Food is expanding into a less quirky location near Gulfport, in the Skyway Marina District.
Chile Verde shared the sneak peek of its second restaurant on its Facebook, which shows light construction being done in the modern-looking space. A projected opening date has not yet been determined.
We can expect a menu similar to the original location, that’s chock full of traditional Mexican dishes like sopes, tortas, tacos, flautas, tamales, burritos and chimichangas. Chile Verde also boasts of an extensive selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The Mexican eatery is also a small grocery store, but there’s no information implying that the new South St. Petersburg location will have a retail section.
Until the new Gulfport spot is up and running, visit the original Chile Verde at 2801 22nd Ave. N in St. Petersburg, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
