Next week, a year’s worth of free Tex-Mex will go to the first 50 customers in line at Chuy’s on opening day. The first Bay area location for the eclectic Austin-based chain, whose expansion into the local market CL covered in February, is scheduled to debut at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Part of the Cypress Creek Town Center, the nearly complete New Tampa restaurant is located at 25750 Sierra Center Blvd. in Lutz, so Chuy’s fans — even Mexican food die-hards who are less familiar with the brand — hoping to snag the giveaway better plan accordingly.

The on-the-house deal comes in the form of “Free Chuy’s for Two” gift certificates, which are redeemable for an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert over 12 months.

“We’re all about serving delicious food in a fun, eclectic atmosphere and look forward to meeting our new customers,” said Helen Bowen, local owner-operator of Chuy’s, in a statement. “With our grand opening quickly approaching, we’re busy putting the finishing touches on the restaurant and are excited to share our authentic Tex-Mex dishes with the Tampa community.”

Chuy’s New Tampa joins nine other locations from the chain — established 36 years ago with a menu of dishes found in South Texas, New Mexico and Mexican border towns — in the Orlando and Miami areas, Gainesville, Jacksonville and Tallahassee.
