Cigar City Brewing ranks best beer and brewer worldwide

Cigar City Brewing ranked at or near the top is almost every category. They were named top brewer in Florida overall. Their Hunahpu Imperial Stout (Brandy Barrel-Aged) was named the top beer in Florida (out of over 40 breweries).


As for the top beers world wide, they had three beers in the top 50. The Hunahpu Imperial Stout ranked number five worldwide and the Pilot Series Miami Madness came in at number 13. In 34th place worldwide was Cigar City's Marshal Zhukov Imperial Stout.


Standing next to Joey Redner, nside the new brewpub on a recent Friday, general manager Bob Wagner told Redner the news from RateBeer's results.


"We were named the fourth best brewery...in the world," Wagner said. A big grin spread across Redner's face and immediately he asked "What other Florida breweries were included?"


Sure enough, Funky Buddha in Boca Raton ranked 34 globally and Peg's Cantina came in at 87.

When it comes to street-cred in the beer world, beer forums set the tone. While beer critics and connoisseurs will determine their favorites, most "beer" people are connoisseurs in their own right. In beer, ratings matter. The most reviews, the better. RateBeer, a high-traffic site for beer reviews and news, released their 2013 brewer and beer ratings. Most of the ratings are based on user reviews, number, rating, etc.
