Most folks might recognize Big Storm Brewing Co. from its variety of IPAs, pilsners and ales, but the Clearwater-based company recently earned a prestigious title for its distilled spirits.

The New York International Spirits Competition named Big Storm as the "Florida Distillery of the Year" at its massive event earlier this month.

Other Sunshine State-based spirits companies that received similar awards were Town 'n' Country’s Gamblers Bay Distillery, which snagged “Florida Gin Distillery of the Year,” as well as  Revenge Rum out of West Palm Beach, which won “Florida Rum of the Year.”

Big Storm’s recent title joins a slew of other spirits-related awards the local company won this year—which include 11 medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a gold medal from the American Distilling Institute for its grapefruit vodka soda, and a platinum medal for its lemon-lime vodka soda from Seltzer Nation, according to a press release.

In addition to its several new accolades, Big Storm Brewing operates five outposts throughout Florida in cities like Clearwater, Tampa, Cape Coral, Odessa and Orlando.

Big Storm's newest taproom (which also boasts a lowkey liquor lounge in the basement) debuted in the heart of Ybor City earlier this year. Big Storm's London dry gin, Coyote Ugly bourbon, silver rum and various flavors of vodkas can be purchased directly on bigstormdistillery.com.
