Mojo Books & Music is holding a public coffee cupping alongside Lutz's Zeal Coffee Roasters on Saturday, July 19.

What is cupping?

Melanie Cafe, who co-owns Mojo, said it's the professional method for evaluating coffee, describing it as "the coffee world's version of wine tasting."

Cupping events happen in other urban areas, but Tampa is lacking in them, she said. Coffee enthusiasts and those still warming up to the liquid will have the opportunity to learn more about coffee assessment and terminology.

Reserving a seat at the cupping table, which is limited to 10 people, cost $20, and guests may secure their spots online. This portion of the event lasts from 5 to 6 p.m.

Hosted at Mojo's East Fowler Avenue space — part bookstore, coffee shop and music oasis — anyone is welcome to observe the cupping without reservations.

Zeal is offering free samples of its coffee by pour-over, a manual brewing technique, before (starting at 4:30) and after the cupping.

The event will also mark the premiere of Bear Robotica, Zeal's seasonal and limited espresso blend.

From 6 to 7, the blend will be integrated into any espresso drinks guests wish to order at Mojo's coffee bar. Those who made reservations for the cupping table will receive a bag of Bear Robotica to take home.
