Popular St. Petersburg adult playground Park & Rec was supposed to open its second location, located at 290 S. Meridian Ave. in downtown Tampa, early this summer, but now it seems like there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Today in an Instagram post, the new location confirmed that it will open this Saturday, October 26 for a "Psycho Circus" Halloween party. According to the post, the event will feature a costume contest with $3,000 in cash and prizes, as well as specials like $5 syringe Jell-O (stylized "JELL-O") shots and $7 Elm Street Boiler Makers.
The new location, situated where Aja nightclub used to be, boasts a two-story 9,900-square-foot layout with ample room for Park & Rec staples like giant beer pong and arcade games like "Ms. Pac-Man." 'Gram-ready murals by Wax & Hive include a masked Super Mario running from a hunchbacked cop. Needless to say, Park & Rec Tampa is making the wait worth it with these details. Party people can also expect DJs and Sunday brunch.
And sorry Gen X Tavern, but you're not the only place in downtown with adult Capri Suns and skee ball anymore.
Park & Rec's Tampa location will have additional retro games like its sister location, and the Tampa menu is similar to the St. Pete one thanks to mac and cheese-topped pizza, a burger with glazed doughnuts buns, and what appears to be a "Super Mario" coin box cocktail topped with Ring Pops.
Now, Tampa locals who used to hoof it to the St. Pete no location can forget about massive Lyft charges.
