In Tampa, Jamaica Jamaica Island Cuisine debuted in early December. The new restaurant prepares a dreamy-looking assortment of classic Jamaican mains, sides and desserts, including rice and peas, jerk pork, escovitch snapper fish, oxtail and black cake. There's plenty of seating inside the casual dining spot at 8206 W. Waters Ave., too.

Another recently opened Caribbean-style culinary find is Largo's Sweet Island Vibes. In a fun setting at 351 W. Bay Drive, diners will enjoy a hearty lineup of everything from island specialties (think curry goat and Rasta Pasta) to a full-liquor bar with cocktails like Jamaican Bolt, an Island Vibes original inspired by Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

In case you missed it, the nautical-themed Galley has launched in the former digs of Reno Downtown Joint in downtown St. Pete. At 27 Fourth St. N., the tavern's handsome bar is accessible from inside or out, and the food menu features dishes such as alligator etouffée and citrus-glazed salmon with quinoa, bok choy and pepitas. The Galley's grand opening celebration is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Across the street from Datz and Dough, signs for an Indian restaurant called Flames is up at 2601 S. MacDill Ave. According to the coming-soon South Tampa restaurant's website, it's all about the little things: "Much attention is paid to the small details. Service is friendly yet professional, dishes are prepared and plated with care and attention."

Elsewhere in Hillsborough, The Latin Bistro at 7210 U.S. Highway 301 started dishing specialties like ropa vieja to Riverview as of Jan. 19. Brandon's Taza Mediterranean Grill, whose progress CL's followed since June, has also opened its doors at 1076 E. Brandon Blvd. with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean fare. Thai Legacy Restaurant is gearing up to replace Thai Boat at 120 N. Parsons Ave. in Brandon. Valrico's Twisted Sisters Bar & Grill has taken over the building at 1602 E. State Road 60 where the One Night Stand used to be. And an invitation-only supper club, LC's, premiered its own Latin-inspired cafe to Brandon last month at 1602 Oakfield Drive.
