Five Courses: Jupiter Donut is glazing it, bro, and more

Many of our favorite things are in this week's food and drink roundup.

Before National Doughnut Day sent locals scurrying to their nearest bakery, Jupiter Donut Company opened its doors to Palm Harbor May 29 at 32130 U.S. Highway 19 N. in the former home of a Krispy Kreme. Jupiter Donut specializes in scratch-made doughnuts and three signatures: glazed, cinnamon sugar and chocolate-glazed.

The shop’s crew creates all their glazes, pastry cream fillings and more in-house. A rotating selection of seven doughnuts is offered daily, though the Jupiter Donut catalog carries more than 100 creative options to pair with its small-batch roastery partners, including Tampa’s Buddy Brew Coffee.

Everyone’s favorite Thai-Mex fusion restaurant, Nitally’s, announced that the British Broadcast Company would soon be making an appearance at its St. Petersburg digs. BBC Three is set to film at the Grand Central District restaurant June 14 for Asian Provocateur, a popular TV show that wrapped up its first season in November 2015. The show stars British comedian Romesh Ranganathan.

The grand opening of downtown Palm Harbor’s de Bine Brewing Co. is planned from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Along the Pinellas Trail at 993 Florida Ave., the 10,000-square-foot de Bine, technically open to the public since March, has a 10-barrel brewhouse on display for those patrons interested in a close-up view.

In addition to craft beer (everything from a German hefeweizen to a black IPA), live funk-fusion tunes and barbecue from neighbor Reel BBQ will be showcased throughout the new brewery’s official debut. Plus, a special bottle release will offer 750-ML bottles of the first beers ever brewed in the facility; the limited supply will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. de Bine is family-friendly during regular business hours, but this celebration will be limited to ages 21 and up.

Late last month, a Topper’s Creamery franchise launched in Riverview with soft serve (really it’s old-fashioned, frozen custard-style ice cream) and an array of ingredients to top your order. Get the name, now?

Topper’s serves its flavors — mint, French vanilla bean and raspberry among them — in cups, cones, sundaes, shakes and malts, but also spins different combinations of dressings and ice creams into classic or build-your-own Twists. There’s a featured flavor of the week (think Cherry Blossom Sundae or Orange Dreamsicle) as well. A grand opening for the region’s Riverview location at 13149 U.S. 301 S. will take place at noon June 9.

Ebisu Sushi Shack, a sushi and Japanese restaurant, is opening near the end of June at 5116 N. Nebraska Ave. in Seminole Heights, while the Brandon area is anticipating at least three openings: Across from Portillo’s at 1721 W. Brandon Blvd., Tibby’s New Orleans Kitchen will cook Big Easy-style cuisine at the former site of Ichiban Buffet. The 107 space at 1076 E. Brandon Blvd., close to Pomodoro Pizza, will soon house Taza Mediterranean Grill. And inside Oak Park Plaza, more ’cue will churn out of Lucky Jacks BBQ at 779 W. Lumsden Road.
