Great Spanish wine for cheap

"The 2005 Borsao Crianza is an absolutely delicious and complex wine and a remarkable value! Composed of 50% Grenache, 25% Tempranillo & 25% Cabernet Sauvignon the wine is ripe with red fruit flavors of pomegranate, red cherry and cassis with layers of non-fruit flavors including tobacco, espresso, rose petals and vanilla bean while finishing with a stony mineral tone, not unlike a New World Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The 2005 Borsao Crianza in made from old vines (average age 60 years) and is from the up-and-coming Campo de Borja region of Spain. Campo de Borja is located in North Central Spain, directly east of Ribera del Duero, and the region is known as "The Grenache Empire". In recent years, I have tasted many delicious Grenache based wines from this D.O. and I am convinced that this is Spain's greatest unknown treasure trove of amazing value and old vines.

The term Crianza literally means 'upbringing', a reference to the aging the wine receives. Spanish wine law requires Crianzas to be aged a minimum of 2 years before release (either in barrel or bottle). The 2005 Borsao Crianza was aged 10 months in French and American oak barrels and a further fourteen months in the Borsao cellar before release."

Bern's Fine Wines and Spirits in Tampa is running a special on Borsao 2005 Crianza at $15.95 per bottle, $172 per case. A grenache, tempranillo and cabernet blend, my notes from a recent Spanish wine tasting: "bright cherry fruit, raspberry and sultry, elegant tannins. Plenty of depth and structure in a really inexpensive wine." This is a frickin' steal.
