Downtown St. Pete’s Morean Arts Center has opened registration for the Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest. Now in its eighth year and limited to 100 participants, the battle between novice and professional bakers annually embarks on a citywide search to find the best cupcakes in town.

Locals who think they have the right ingredients to school the Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest competition can sign up online through Aug. 20. A $15 fee is required upon registration, alongside the entry form and photo liability waiver.

Awards go to the first- and second-place bakers and the People’s Choice determined by the crowd. In addition to bragging rights, winners receive a newly designed trophy from one of the Morean’s expert clay artists.

What’s more, participants can submit entries for additional categories — including Youth/Teen (for bakers ages 10 to 16) and Specialty (for gluten-free and vegan recipes).

Hosted at the Morean Center for Clay in the Warehouse Arts District, this year’s Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 25.
