Handpresso Auto: espresso on your commute?

The highly anticipated Handpresso Auto recently became available to French caffeine junkies, who have been brewing up a storm. According to Handpresso personnel, the company has been flooded with requests from American caffeine junkies (and probably marketing moguls) to market the product overseas. Currently, Handpresso Auto is available in many countries throughout Europe, including Greece, Italy, Norway, United Kingdom, and of course, France.

Handpresso Auto weighs less than two pounds, is about the size of a one-cup thermos, and fits comfortably in the standard size cup holder of a car. All you need to do is plug it into your cigarette lighter and add water and a coffee pod. Then, Handpresso Auto musters up all of its energy to create sixteen bars of pressure. Then, three beeps later, presto! Out shoots a shot of espresso. Only nine bars of pressure is required to brew a shot of espresso, so apparently, this is espresso served at an express speed.

If Handpresso Auto makes its way into Tampa automobiles, it?s safe to say that the response will be interesting and will generate plenty of debate. Since coffee shops aren?t on every street corner like they are in more caffeine-consumed cities, such as Boston, caffeine junkies may argue that they need a Handpresso Auto because there are no coffee shops on their commute route. More practical people will likely say that it?s a unique concept, but if you need a caffeine jolt that desperately, perhaps you shouldn?t be behind the wheel in the first place.

What will they think of next, an Easy-Bake Oven on Wheels?

If you’re stuck on the Howard Frankland Bridge, Veterans Expressway or other congested roadway during morning rush hour, how does brewing your very own cup of espresso sound? That’s right; soon you may be able to brew espresso from the convenience of your front seat. What a stimulating, yet, scary concept. If this becomes a reality on the roads of Tampa….well, don’t you just see an accident waiting to happen?

Handpresso, a line of portable, hand-held espresso machines, was invented in France in 2006 by the late Henrik Nielsen. (Oui, oui.) Several Handpresso models emerged over the past several years, including Handpresso Wild.
