The VIP breakfast has arrived in Treasure Island.
This seasonal breakfast menu from the VIP Lounge & Mexican Restaurant, available from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sundays, returned Feb. 12. But it's only here for a limited time — through May 28.
A local landmark, the VIP — open since the 1970s, though the current owners have had it since 1993 — features eight entrees. Choose from the chilaquiles; breakfast quesadilla; breakfast burrito; tacos con huevos a la Mexicana; three pancakes; bacon, egg and cheese wet burrito (the restaurant's wet burrito is "famous" on its regular menu); and Mega VIP Breakfast Sandwich!! with eggs, bacon, avocado, fresh jalapeño, cheese and mayo.
Classic huevos rancheros even gets the special VIP treatment: "A crispy white corn tortilla topped with black bean salsa, grilled potatoes, two eggs over easy, and our signature red burrito sauce. Then, another crispy tortilla is placed on top and we cover it with more black bean salsa, red burrito sauce, melted Cheddar/jack cheese, green salsa ranchero, a sprinkle of grilled chorizo sausage, sour cream, and fresh chopped cilantro."
In between the kitchen's transition from breakfast to lunch (11 to 11:30 a.m.), the restaurant serves chips with salsa, guac or queso and Three Amigos, chips accompanied by all three dips.
There's also coffee and $3 Bloody Marys on the breakfast lineup, but none of the drink options, for this food editor, anyway, top the $10 mimosa carafe. I mean, how could you resist?
