Tampa Bay chefs might not've walked away with any 2017 James Beard Award nominations. But one, St. Petersburg native and Il Ritorno executive chef-owner David Benstock, announced Friday that he's scored an invitation to cook at New York City's celebrated James Beard House.

An extension of the James Beard Foundation, the Beard House has hosted a few of the region's local chefs, including Edison: Food + Drink Lab's Jeannie Pierola, over the last 30 years.

"This isn't just a career goal, this is a life goal," Benstock said in a statement. "To be a part of the James Beard House legacy is an absolute honor, especially at this stage in my career."

Benstock who's in the process of expanding his modern Italian flagship in downtown St. Pete to include an open kitchen, two private dining areas and a booze license  is set to spearhead his dinner on July 18. The chef and his team will execute a five-course tasting menu paired with wine, and throughout their immersive meal, the Beard House, whose dinner guests enter through the kitchen, will also have a livestream going in the kitchen.
