On Dec. 1, Seahorse Restaurant went on Facebook to announce its closure after 80 years of service. The joint first opened in 1938, as one of the original drive-in restaurants servicing beachgoers from near and far. The post thanked its loyal customers for the support over the decades and explained that the owners, Jackie and Carl Hollenback, were unsure if the closure would be temporary or permanent.

"[..]WE MAY RE- EMERGE IN A WHILE, OR ENJOY A RETIREMENT AND ALLOW THIS WONDERFUL OLD BUILDING TO TAKE IN SOME NEW RESTAURANTEURS WITH FRESH IDEAS."

The post was met with over 700 reactions, 565 comments and 300 shares. Safe to say this Pass-a-Grille staple had quite the following.

In a recent interview with Tampa Bay Times, the Hollenbacks explained that it was the outpouring of love from the community that made the couple decide to reopen the restaurant earlier this week.

“We had a really huge reaction on Facebook,” Jackie Hollenback told the Times. “Everything turned out well and we got some help from former employees to help set up a management team.”

Jackie also told the publication that she plans to train the management team to eventually take over, and run the joint while she enjoys a much-needed retirement. Being that the Seahorse crew will be the ones taking over the reins, the restaurant's cult following won't have to sweat many changes to the menu or vibe of the Pass-a-Grille favorite.

The Seahorse is located at 800 Pass-a-Grille Way. Slide by for breakfast and lunch dishes 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday-Monday, closed Tuesday.
