How will Lucky’s Market introduce St. Petersburg shoppers to the New Mexico tradition that is the Hatch green chile? By putting on the two-week Green Chile Fest, obviously.

Beginning Aug. 15, the festive and fiery celebration spotlights the organic grocery chain’s Hatch green chiles — which are billed as “world famous” — at all of its Florida stores through Aug. 29. Highlights include master roasters preparing the Hatch chile for smelling and sampling outdoors, as well as a showcase of several other chiles ranging from spicy to sweet to smoky.

“Lucky’s Market has a passion for introducing new and healthy products to our customers, all while creating a fun experience for guests that celebrates food,” said Brooke Armstrong, Florida regional marketing specialist for Lucky’s Market, in a statement. “With Hatch Green Chiles being in-season, this was the perfect time to enhance our store experience and give our shoppers a way to enjoy these delicious peppers and introduce the green chile craze to Floridians around the state.”

Specials on Hatch chiles and chile-related products are also planned during the Green Chile Fest — most notably from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18. That’s when the chain plans to offer complementary wine and beer pairings, green chile mocktails, live music and recipe demonstrations that call for Hatch chiles (think burgers, sausages, fresh breads and kebabs).

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Lucky’s Market launched in St. Pete’s Tyrone area in early June.
