Malibu Red is a 70-proof blend of Mexican silver tequila and Caribbean coconut rum. These two flavors are similar enough to complement each other, so bottling them together in one liquor works. The original Malibu has potent coconut and vanilla flavors, which are perfect if you?re nuts about coconut. If you?re cool with coconut, but think the original Malibu tastes like your bottle of sunscreen, Malibu Red is for you. It?s good in a cocktail, with lemon-lime soda or as a shot. Many of the drinks include lime wedges or lime juice, undoubtedly to complement the tequila flavor.

When you think of tropical cocktails, Malibu rum may come to mind. Cocktails made with Malibu rum may not be icy, brain-freezing creations like daiquiris, but with their rich coconut flavor, they belong on the beach as much as daiquiris and your coconut-scented sunscreen.
Joining the Malibu family is Malibu Red, developed in part by hip-hop star and actor, Ne-Yo. Serving as “Chief Creative Officer,” he wanted to create a product as smooth as his lyrics. One of his recent songs, Burning Up, was actually inspired by the “fiery” Malibu Red. If you want to party like a rap star, you can check out Ne-Yo’s drink of the month, featured on the Malibu website.
