These regular announcements are getting kind of ridiculous. Nevertheless, another celebrated restaurant in town has joined forces with Tampa’s Sparkman Wharf to launch a new culinary concept at the forthcoming waterfront hangout, which is part dining garden, part biergarten and part recreational lawn.
Mise en Place owners Maryann Ferenc and chef Marty Blitz are bringing Montados by Mise en Place to Sparkman Wharf’s dining garden. Developed by the pioneering duo, Montados will focus on Spanish-style tapas in the intimate al fresco setting tucked beneath large trees, where local chefs and restaurateurs tinker with experimental, street food-style concepts and menus.
Blitz and the gang’s shareable plates are set to reflect traditional tapas, but that doesn’t mean they won’t get the modern treatment occasionally. On the beverage side, guests can also look forward to five Spanish wines — among them sangria and cava; Ben Carson, a former Mise employee who serves as the general manager of Olé Imports, is collaborating with Montados on its vino selection.
Named after the popular tapas dishes piled on slices of bread, Montados marks the fifth eatery planned for the dining garden, joining the previously unveiled Whatever Pops & Bowls, Foundation Coffee Co., Gallito and Boat Run Oyster Company.
Scheduled to premiere in the Channel District in October, Sparkman Wharf is part of the larger Water Street Tampa development.
“Sparkman Wharf represents the next step in the definitive transformation of Tampa, particularly downtown Tampa, and Chef Blitz and I are excited for this new endeavor,” Ferenc said in a statement. “We knew that tapas had to be a part of the culinary offering here because enjoying tapas is all about sharing and gathering as a community to enjoy the simple, good things in life, and that aligns perfectly with the spirit of Sparkman Wharf.”
