The owner of downtown St. Pete's the Avenue eat/drink has plans for the now-vacant building between his 4-year-old flagship and World of Beer: a "gastro barbecue" restaurant.

The name of the new concept at 344 First Ave. S., where the short-lived pizza joint-gastropub POW operated until recently, hasn't been announced yet.

According to Avenue commander Stephen Schrutt, whose second restaurant, Kings Street Food Counter, is scheduled to open on Central Avenue next month, the customer-focused barbecue concept will have its own vibe, as well as a distinct cocktail program.

"Owning adjoining restaurants opens unlimited possibilities and we will do more block parties, live music and proper food and drinks," Schrutt said in a news release.
