Yet another fancy sushi joint has landed in Tampa.

O-ku, the second Tampa concept from Charleston-based Indigo Road Hospitality Group, opens in Tampa tomorrow.

It’s on the ground floor of the Bayshore Gardens building at 2909 W Bay to Bay Blvd., which also houses Jeannie Pierola’s Counter Culture and O-ku’s sibling restaurant, Maru. The Japanese-Peruvian concept opened on the rooftop last May.

O-ku has ten other locations throughout the South and up the East Coast, including Winter Park and Jacksonville Beach. Maru, however, is only located in Tampa.

O-ku’s culinary program is led by Executive Chef Billy Brannen, who touts experience as a Gohan Society Scholar in Japan and relies on fresh seafood sourced from top markets in Tokyo and nearby waterways, per a press release.

Its sushi menu includes nigiri, sashimi, otoro (a premium fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin).

O-ku also dishes out a variety of dumplings, skewers, and entrees like miso glazed snapper, pork belly bao and A-5 wagyu sandos as well as a robata section, where items are prepared using a traditional Japanese-style charcoal grill.

The drink menu includes specialty cocktails like a plum martini and “Under the Sun” (Volcan Reposado, mezcal, hibiscus, acid adjusted Japanese pear, and soda), along with imported sake, wines, local beer and alcohol-free options.

The Tampa location has over 100 indoor seats and over 20 outdoor seats

Oโ€‘Ku is open daily 5 p.m.-10 p.m Sunday-Thursday and 5 p.m.-11 p.m Friday-Saturday. Reservations are available via OpenTable. For more information, visit o-kusushi.com and follow @okutampa on Instagram and Facebook.
