The Cuban sandwich has a cohort of admirers around the Bay area. But Cuban cocktails, many of which call for rum, will drive an upcoming workshop at Tampa's Inkwood Books, where drinking while you learn will be encouraged.
At 7 p.m. Oct. 13, The Mill's Ryan Pines is set to lead the Cuban cocktail class and sampling at the Armenia Avenue bookstore. Formerly behind the bar at Tampa's edison: food+drink lab and now at The Mill in downtown St. Pete, Pines will discuss the history and ingredients of the drinks, followed by a tasting.
The ticketed event costs $35 for two guests, who will also receive one copy of the new Cuban Cocktails book from New York's Cuban rum bar, Cienfuegos. The book, packed with photos and history, highlights 100 recipes on the country's beloved favorites, fresh takes on classics and other modern mixes, including punch.
