Halloween is finally almost here, and I'm finally in the mood for some pumpkin.
Yes, pumpkin beers showed up somewhere in July this year, and the coffee shops weren't far behind. But for me, fall drinking season starts now, so let's begin with a treat: Not Your Basic Pumpkin Spice Latte.
This cocktail, which calls for espresso vodka, is kind of a spin on a White Russian, but better (as in stronger). I even incorporated triple espresso vodka since lattes are made with espresso, and I'm frugal.
The recipe's vanilla vodka is a must, but if you're lazy (don't be lazy), you can use store-bought pumpkin spice coffee creamer instead of making your own. Creating a homemade version of the creamer is easy and worth the effort, though. Plus, adding real pumpkin boosts your fiber intake, and you know me, I'm always looking out for your health.
Not Your Basic PSL
Pumpkin Spice Creamer:
1 cup half and half
1 tablespoon canned pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
In a sauce pan, bring half and half to a simmer. Add in pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice, then mix. Let cool before serving.
3 ounces espresso vodka
1.5 ounces vanilla vodka
Splash of pumpkin spice creamer
Fill a cocktail glass with ice. Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker, giving them a good shake. Pour back into glass and try not to drink too fast.
