St. Petersburg's Thurière brothers will open Copa wine and hookah lounge next month

Like a wine bar, but younger and cooler.

St. Petersburg will be overflowing with wine bars before the winter arrives. Copa, a wine and cocktail bar, is set to debut mid-October at 1047 Central Ave. in St. Pete's Edge District.

Copa serves vino by the glass, but guests can also choose from a selection of cocktails, beer and tapas plates.

The owners are brothers Maxim and Sébastien Thurière, who were raised in South St. Pete. According to a recent interview, the duo wants to attract a younger crowd to Copa — and shake the stigma of wine bars usually being dark, cave-like, spaces — by creating an upbeat, ambient and inviting vibe.

There's even an outdoor patio complete with hookah pipes, which works out for smokers who were sad after the shutdown of nearby Habibi lounge left Acropolis as one of the last few placed to get your hookah on. More details to come as construction continues and an opening date is announced.
