Shipping container concepts are popping off in Tampa Bay in beyond. Sparkman Wharf kicked off the fad late last year when it opened a food park loaded with refurbished shipping containers housing local restaurants, creating a family-friendly foodie hub in Channelside. Cut to Crab Devil, an artist collective who is working on launching an immersive art experience utilizing shipping containers at 3800 N. Nebraska Ave. in Tampa.

Now, Wesley Chapel retail shopping center, ‘The Grove,’ is in the works of getting permits for a shipping container park.

According to TBBJ, The Grove was recently sold to Mishorim-Gold Properties for $62.7 million. Mishorim-Gold Properties filed a permit application for a project titled "The Grove Container Park.”

The publication stated that the application of the project included, ”a 14-unit, 26,240-square-foot commercial facility that will primarily consist of food and beverage service vendors housed in repurposed shipping containers, but also include recreational facilities for the general public. This will be similar to the Sparkman Wharf development in the Channelside district of downtown Tampa."

Mishorim-Gold Properties told TBBJ that the container food/entertainment park will consist of 80 to 100 containers and will have two phases with a possible third phase.

What does this mean for King of the Coop that just sign a lease to open a second location within The Grove's space? Will owner Joe Dodd need to rethink frying chicken in a shipping container?

More details to come as the application is processed and official plans are made.
