Nearly a year ago, CL connected with Amanada "AJ" Jones who has been working tirelessly to give St. Pete its first cat cafe. The Sunshine Kitty Catfe, a coffee shop with a feline twist, is getting closer to its debut.
“There will be a cat lounge where adoptable cats will live, and you can get to know them,” Jones told CL. “It’ll be like a big foster home for cats. People can come hang out with them.”
Caffeinated guests can admire these adoptable cats through a glass divider that separates the cat lounge from the coffee shop. The catfe will also offer lounge reservations on an hourly basis and accept donations in lieu of entrance fees.
Jones has been keeping followers in the loop with exciting progress shots of the space sitting at 1669 1st Ave. S. On January 21, Jones posted on Facebook "Progress! (The most boring picture on this feed, but still exciting!) Stuff's happening, guys!!" along with the photo below.
The Sunshine Kitty Catfe could use some more assistance from locals and fellow cat lovers, through the concept's Amazon wishlist and by ordering cat toys, food and other necessities for the soon-to-be feline residence. As of January 27, the GoFundMe for the Sunshine Kitty Catfe has raised $2,965 out of $15,000. If you're itching for this catfe to finally make its debut, head to gofundme.com/f/sunshinekitty to donate.
