The Chicken Spot is opening alongside Bacon Bitch in St. Pete's Edge District

And there's a lot of controversy over the owner.

Looks like Miami-based Queens Hospitality wants more action in the ‘Burg. The restaurant group is not only launching a breakfast and brunch concept, Bacon Bitch, the group is doubling down by also launching another The Chicken Spot location. Both restaurants are set to take over Bodega’s former space at 1124 Central Ave. in St. Pete.

According to an interview with St. Pete Rising, the group isn’t looking to be South Beach kitsch, instead, Aaron Keene, Managing Partner at Queens Hospitality, says they want to become a local staple.

“We are all about adapting to our space and the people around us and becoming part of the community.”

When it comes to menu items, obviously the menu is poultry forward, with recipes that are nostalgic to Founder and CEO of Queens Hospitality, Chris Viso.

“Looking to recreate his favorite chicken sandwich he grew up eating from his local bodega in Queens, New York, Viso envisioned creating a quick-service restaurant that felt like home,”  reads The Chicken Spot website.

Eats include loaded sandwiches, wraps, wings and sides like loaded waffle fries and mac, and an insane lineup of colorful dipping sauces. Diners can get a classic chicken sando with lettuce, tomato, onions and buttermilk mayo on a potato roll bun or opt for one of the more creative creations like the Zaddy with house-made marsala, mozzarella cheese, sauteed peppers, onions, and mushrooms.

By the way, there’s also a selection of “snacks” with options like chicken nuggets, eggrolls, fried pickles, popcorn chicken, quesadillas and fried mac and cheese bites. Need something that’s not so vicious on your waistline? Opt for a fresh wrap. While we can expect menu items from the OG Miami location, the St. Pete concept is set to host some unique items new to The Chicken Spot menu.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a dark cloud over The Chicken Spot and Bacon Bitch owner, Chris Viso. Viso is the founder and CEO of Queens Hospitality and is under fire by Miami residents over animal cruelty allegations. CL readers have been adamantly reaching out sending the change.org petition detailing Viso's alleged involvement in an incident in which a resident stray cat (which would frequent the Bacon Bitch property and surrounding areas) was violently shot with arrows from a crossbow in 2017 and had to be euthanized.

Creative Loafing has sent multiple emails to Queens Hospitality and is awaiting reply.

Both concepts are shooting for a December debut. Upon opening, The Chicken Spot will be running from noon to midnight daily. Oh, and you’ll be able to get your first taste for a bargain -  for the first month (or two) all menu items will be priced at $5.
