The closure rumors about Seminole Heights’ staple Red Star Rock Bar seem to be true, and there’s a farewell comedy show set for Tuesday, July 20 to make it official.
The event asks folks “say goodby’ to Red Star with a lineup of Tampa Bay’s funniest people including John Jacobs, Sean Harper, Deandra, Cara Milburg, Clark Brooks, Jon Silman and Matt Carter. Dan Baskt emcees the party taking place in the dive bar’s courtyard
And fitting for a farewell, the show is happening rain or shine. “Bring an umbrella or poncho—we are doing this thing no matter what!,” organizers wrote.
Opened in 2015, the bar, located at 5210 N Florida Ave across from Ichicoro is still open until then, and recently expanded when it opened its Red Star Live restaurant and venue behind Brandon Harley-Davidson. Before that, Red Star’s Ybor location changed its name to White Lie (though is still opened by the same group).
Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reached out to Red Star to get details and dates of the bars’ closing and have not heard back but will update information as soon as possible.
