A day of tasting and cooking with Russo's New York Pizzeria founder Anthony Russo is coming to Clearwater. Launched back in November, Russo's Clearwater — the first Tampa-area pizzeria for Houston-based Russo's Restaurants chain — will host the chef during two events on Sunday.

According to a statement from Mike Daner of Daner Fine Restaurants, who opened the young Clearwater restaurant with Russo's, they're set to build five more locations in Tampa Bay.

"This is a fun way to introduce the concept to local guests," Daner said.

Highlights of the gatherings — the lunch event takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while the dinner event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — include cooking demonstrations from chef Russo, drink specials, complimentary food tastings, and 28-inch "Party Pizza" (what the franchise calls its famously giant pie that feeds up to 20 people) giveaways at each event.

During dinner, Russo will also randomly draw the winners of four free tickets to an upcoming Philadelphia Phillies spring training game, versus the New York Yankees, in Clearwater.

In a casual setting, Russo's specializes in New York-style pies as well as Italian pastas, soups and salads. The Clearwater location has another pizza giveaway planned between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 22, when diners who purchase any menu item will receive a free slice of Party Pizza.
