Sesh’s debut has been a long time coming, since its owners—the same folks from John's Pass' Mad Beach Craft Brewing Co.—have been tirelessly restoring the historic, wooden building for the greater part of two years. Its website states that parts of Sesh are well over a century old.
With a menu full of beer-friendly eats similar to its sibling Mad Beach, Sesh offers hearty dishes like alligator po’boys, grouper sandwiches, baby back ribs, and build-your-own grain bowls. More upscale entrees include a surf and turf, scallop ceviche, and fresh-caught fish which you can order blackened, roasted or baked.
Alongside its lunch and dinner options, the new brewpub also features a wide variety of sangria, craft cocktails and house-brewed craft beers, seltzers and ciders—although its tap list hasn't been posted on its website yet.
Besides housing St. Pete’s former Melting Pot (which closed its doors in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic), the historic Fourth Street building has a particular reputation for being haunted. Owner Matt Powers joined local ghost hunters Spirits of St. Petersburg on a paranormal investigation back in 2021, and now Sesh embraces its building’s otherworldly past by utilizing creepy fonts on its website and referring to its kid’s menu as “lil goblins.”
Powers, who is also the CEO of Mad Beach, announced the debut of his new brewpub back in 2021; it was originally slated to open in early 2022.
Sesh’s name derives from the word “session,” which is a homage to stoners everywhere. Mad Beach is known for its 4/20 munchie menus of “Wake & Bake” chicken and loaded brownies—a tradition that Sesh has continued, with eclectic menu items like the jelly doughnut burger.
Sesh St. Pete is now open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for brunch on Sundays.
