Seven-week local chef battle kicks off in Tampa

Parkshore Grill and Restaurant BT are the first to face off during the Epicurean's Epic Chef Showdown.

For a second year, eight chefs from all over the region are prepared to clash in the name of friendly competition.

The Epicurean Hotel’s Epic Chef Showdown — which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Monday to benefit Feeding Tampa Bay — will challenge two contestants to cook up two one-of-a-kind dishes using a box of mystery ingredients. Once the clock runs out, a panel of local celebs will judge each plate, and the winning chef will move onto the next round.

Tonight, Tampa’s Restaurant BT and Parkshore Grill in St. Petersburg are set to face off. Cena, Ava, Mise en Place, Rooster & the Till, Pearl in the Grove, Birch & Vine are the other competing restaurants.

Hosted by “Retro Rad” chef Emily Ellyn, a new battle will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Monday inside the Epicurean Theatre. The seven-week showdown’s semifinals are Aug. 15 and 22, while the finale is planned for Aug. 29.

Those who haven’t snagged tickets shouldn’t worry, though. A weekly watch party, open to the public in the hotel’s Library Lounge area, will stream the action live on a big-screen TV.
