South Tampa Mini Doughnut Factory shuts down for good

This one hurts.

COURTESY OF MINI DOUGHNUT FACTORY

The Mini Doughnut Factory is officially shut down in south Tampa. When the St. Pete location closed last month, it looked like an isolated incident.

Unfortunately, that's not the case as the factory closed in a big way — by deleting all social media accounts and posting on its website, "We doughnut want to break your heart, but we are officially closed."

That's tough.

After the Mini Doughnut Factory launched in 2015, the business had instant popularity with a vast menu of bite-sized doughnuts, one of which was an ode to Homer Simpson.

The mini doughnut craze has swept Tampa Bay, and now local restaurants like Better Byrd also fry up the tiny treats.

For something so mini, it had a big impact.

RIP Mini Doughnut Factory.
