The ice cream competition is heating up in the heart of Ybor City.

Mayday Handcrafted Ice Cream  celebrates its highly-anticipated grand opening on Wednesday, March 16 , by giving all guests one free scoop in its small sugar cone.

The grand opening runs from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at 1600 E 8th Ave. in Centro Ybor. With over 20 artisan flavors to choose from—ranging from classics like triple vanilla to unique creations such as blueberry toast crunch—it might be hard to pick your free scoop at the upcoming grand opening.

Some of Mayday’s popular ice creams include salted caramel, strawberry, key lime pie, while its current seasonal menu consists of limited-edition flavors like the dairy-free “Florida Winter,” a tangy orange and tangerine sorbet, and “Denali Postcard,” with chunks of chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

There are various types of dairy-free options, as well as boozy flavors for the 21+ crowd—like Mayday’s “Cold Fashioned, ” a cherry sorbet with hints of orange and bourbon. The St. Augustine-based scoop shop also sells coffee and espresso.

This new ice cream shop also offers readymade pints of their ice cream, alongside its 20-plus flavors available for dine-in or take-out. St. Augustine native Stephen DiMare is the owner of both Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops and Mayday Ice Cream, as the popsicle shop was originally supposed to open at 1600 E 8th Ave. space in Centro Ybor.

Ybor City marks the 8th Mayday location throughout Florida, with other scoop shops in Lakeland, Jacksonville, and its hometown of St. Augustine. The Ybor Mayday location will be open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday-Saturday.
