Earlier this month, The Cupcake Spot made a sweet announcement ahead of its 10-year anniversary celebration.

To thank the community for their support over the past decade, the downtown St. Pete cupcake bakery plans to give away 1,000 cupcakes on the house, starting at 10 a.m. Dec. 18. There’s no purchase necessary for patrons itching to indulge in one of the gourmet freebies — which come in both chocolate and vanilla flavors — either.

“After purchasing this business three years ago, I have so much gratitude to all of our customers for helping us reach this milestone,” said owner Daniel Delgado in a statement. “We want to share our success and appreciation with everyone.”

The Cupcake Spot is billed as the Tampa Bay area’s original cupcake-only confectionary. Its late South Tampa flagship opened in 2007, followed by the current location along St. Pete’s 400 block, which launched a year later.

Fans of the popular bakery — and its mascot, affectionately known as Cuppy — choose from 26 house-made flavors daily, plus new and seasonal offerings that rotate from time to time. Paint the Town Red Velvet (red chocolate cake, cream cheese icing), Va-Va Vanilla (vanilla cake, vanilla bean buttercream) and Billion Dollar Chocolate (devil’s food cake, vanilla icing, chocolate fudge filling) are menu favorites.
