St. Pete sees reopening of the Independent

On Saturday, the beloved bar officially announced its EDGE District launch date.

The Independent has returned to the St. Petersburg community with specialty beer and wine.

The region's popular Independent Bar, which closed the doors of its original St. Petersburg digs four years ago, has revealed the opening date for its EDGE District location: 5 p.m. Saturday

"TODAY IS THE DAY!" according to a Facebook update posted by the bar, relaunching in The Amsterdam's former home at 1049 Central Ave., just a little bit ago.

In celebration of Zwanze Day, the sold-out Cantillon Brewery event taking place now at the nearby Green Bench Brewing Co., the Independent says it plans to showcase "some amazing" draft beers. Among them is the Cantillon Iris, a lambic that'll tap at 7 p.m.
