Do you ever get the feeling that downtown St. Petersburg is being overrun with stockbroker types? Well, prepare to indulge your wildest dreams because last Thursday, Sept. 17, a new stock market-themed bar, Whiskey Exchanged, made its debut.

Located at 540 Central Ave. near fellow newcomer Chick’nCone, and in the heart of Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete., which is now loaded with eats from all types of cuisine, from seafood to barbecue, locals are spoiled by the selection. To carry on with the overflowing-cornucopia vibes, Whiskey Exchange is is ready to spoil guests stopping in looking for a buzz. Although the joint isn’t passing out insider trading info (a la Martha Stewart), the bar is pouring a slew of craft cocktails and boasting a serious whiskey collection.

According to St. Pete Rising, the stock market element means some drinks will be priced based on supply and demand. If a certain drink is popular that night, the price will go up, while if another drink isn’t getting too much love from customers the drink price will drop. Wonder how that affects food cost calculations.

“The prices change every ten people and visitors can view the ‘stock’ ticker to see what drinks have gone down in price. The bar has even implemented ‘market crashes,’ which will be announced on social media,” St. Pete Rising wrote. “Two types of crashes are possible, one is a regularly recurring crash (similar to a happy hour), while the other type of crash is completely at random and lasts for about 30 to 45 minutes. In both cases, the prices of drinks decrease.”

Daily specials include Monday Service Industry Night from 7 p.m. to close, $5 Smoked Old Fashioned Tuesdays, and W.A.P. Wednesdays with half off charcuterie. Hours are 4 p.m.-3 a.m. daily at Whiskey Exchange, further proving that stocks either go up, or plummet after regular business hours.

Oh, and if you don’t have the money to play with the stock market, long-running and revered dive, Emerald Bar, is a short walk away.
