Stone crab season opened on October 15, and you can get your fill of that sweet meat this weekend at two different crackdowns: the Cooters 26th Annual Crab Fest (happening Thurs.-Sun. on Clearwater Beach) and Frenchy’s 35th Annual Stone Crab Weekend (happening Fri.-Sat. less than half a mile away).
Cooters promises additional crab species (snow, king, dungeness), and the get-together at Frenchy’s is a full-on block party that closes down Baymont Street. Both shindigs will have live music, and it goes without saying that the stone crab could always run out.
