Stone crab season is here, and Clearwater Beach is hosting two festivals this weekend for clawheads

It all starts on Thursday and runs through the weekend.

Stone crab season opened on October 15, and you can get your fill of that sweet meat this weekend at two different crackdowns: the Cooters 26th Annual Crab Fest (happening Thurs.-Sun. on Clearwater Beach) and Frenchy’s 35th Annual Stone Crab Weekend (happening Fri.-Sat. less than half a mile away).

Cooters promises additional crab species (snow, king, dungeness), and the get-together at Frenchy’s is a full-on block party that closes down Baymont Street. Both shindigs will have live music, and it goes without saying that the stone crab could always run out.

Cooters Restaurant and Bar, 423 Poinsettia Ave. (cooters.com) and Frenchy's Original Café, 41 Baymont St. (stonecrabweekend.com).
