This leap year, King of the Coop is upping the ante for its Take the Throne Challenge. Not only will contestants have to put down five tenders doused in the Coop's Nashville hot sauce with habanero and Carolina Reaper powder, but they'll also have to chug a pour of a ghost pepper-infused stout specially made by Angry Chair Brewing. Ouch.

On Feb. 29, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Angry Chair Brewing, located at 6401 N. Florida Ave. in Seminole Heights, Tampa Bay locals will line up to take the challenge. Tickets to join the madness, go on sale via Eventbrite this Friday, Feb. 14. It'll cost you $25 to compete, and King of the Coop owner Joe Dodd told CL that the cap may be at 30 or expand to 50 competitors depending on interest. All competitors must sign a release of liability form.

During the challenge, competitors have 12 minutes to put down five jumbo tenders, fries tossed in the Coop's fury seasoning and potato bread, as well as chug the Angry Chair ghost pepper stout.

The fastest competitor wins a trophy of a crowned toilet with a plate reading "Fire in the hole." Dodd said the idea came to him after a trip to Nashville with his management team last year.

"There was a hot chicken joint that had a T-shirt on the wall that said 'You thought it was hot going in,'" he said with a laugh. Even if you don't complete the challenge.

All those who finish their plates and the brew receive a $20 gift card to King of the Coop, a $20 gift card to Angry Chair, and a free scoop from Revolution Ice Cream. Everyone who participates—whether they complete the challenge or not—receives a T-shirt with a still-forthcoming logo, which will be a fusion of King of the Coop and Angry Chair Brewing.

But when it comes time for digestion, they all might be losers.

Not willing to sacrifice your bowels for the throne? Spectators can swing by for chicken tender sliders and an Angry Chair beer for $4. The main event kicks off at 3 p.m., make sure your phones are charged for prime Instagram story content.
