A new Publix location will open Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 a.m. in downtown’s Channel district.
The Publix, located at at 1105 E. Twiggs St., was originally set to be finished at the start of 2019, but was pushed back to the late-August opening date due to construction delays.
The new Publix will have a lot of features other than the obvious grocery store, including a pharmacy and both an indoor and outdoor seating area with Wi-Fi.
The new Publix is another addition to the development in the area, specifically centered around the Channel Club development, which also features a 21-story apartment tower. Previously, the closest Publix in the area was located on Bayshore Boulevard, a location that was criticized for getting easily packed.
Publix, which opens several stores throughout the southern U.S. every year, will also be debut several other locations in Tampa, including a Greenwise Market in downtown Tampa and another traditional Publix location at Westshore and Kennedy has begun construction.
The Greenwise Market, set to be located on Water Street, is slated to be built by 2021, while the Westshore and Kennedy Publix location has yet to have a solid date for its completion.
