The Roost brings chicken, comfort food to the beach

In the old Dockside Dave's space, St. Pete Beach's The Roost has launched.

A fresh concept is breathing new life into the former home of St. Pete Beach's Dockside Dave's.

At 7141 Gulf Blvd., The Roost has been specializing in broasted chicken and comfort food "from Grandma's farm kitchen" since last month. The restaurant-bar's website defines broasting as "a fast, pressure fried method of cooking chicken that uses very little oil and results in the crispiest, juiciest chicken you've ever tasted."

Guests will find a full bar that stays open late, indoor seating (including room for groups of 10 and 12) and open-air dining on the outdoor patio. The stylish space has a rustic, cozy feel.

Though the bar starts cooking up snacks after 10 p.m., the restaurant serves combination orders of pieces and sides, ranging from about $8 (one piece plus one side) to $15 (four pieces plus three sides). Six sides are offered daily, including items like mac and cheese, bourbon corn pudding, cauliflower bake, potato salad and black eyed peas.

Desserts, iced tea and lemonade are also on hand.
