This weekend at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival it's the 'Shamrocks & Shenanigans Weekend', taking place on the fairgrounds in Piper's Valley.

In celebration of St. Patrick's Day, the Ren Fest will be 'going green' and celebrating the weekend Irish-style.

Activities will include:

  • Highland Games: Stone and weight throwing competitions, caber and sheaf tossing and more
  • Irish Dancers
  • The Tampa Pipe and Drum Band
  • Green beer for sale
  • Irish-themed vendors
  • Beer tasting: taking place in Piper's Valley from 12-5 p.m. on both days; Guests (21+) can receive 5 tastings for $5
  • Highland Glenn Foods: Celtic food for sale such as meat pies, bridies, sausage rolls, cornish pasties, shepherds Pie, fish and chips, bangers and chips

In addition to the celebrations this weekend, the Ren Fest will be open on Thursday, March 17th, from 4-10 p.m., to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a "blowout party". Admission is free and guests (21+) will be treated to live music and a free green beer.

Update: "A Knight to Remember", the after hours masquerade ball, has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 16th.

The 33rd season of the Bay Area Renaissance Festival runs every weekend from Saturday, March 26th, until Sunday, April 17th, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., as well as on Friday, March 11th for schools and senior day, and on St. Patrick's Day from 5-10 p.m. Admission at the gate is $17.95 for adults, $9.95 for children 5-12, children 4 and under are free.
