A Florida-born Tex-Mex chain has a new takeout option for your next Netflix binge. Two words: burrito kit.
The Hardly Homemade Burrito Kit was announced as the latest family-style creation from Tijuana Flats, though that name is a little questionable. Like, don’t use the words hardly homemade to shame me for not putting forth the effort that goes into doing a burrito bar on my own after I just spent $35 on your flashy kit, ya know?
Anyway…
Available through UberEATS and in-store pickup, the kit, which is sorta similar to the yellow boxes that Old El Paso stocks all those grocery-store shelves with, can feed up to six people with its burrito-building essentials: chicken and beef; toppings like jalapeños, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese; refried or black beans; rice, flour or wheat tortillas; and chips.
Oh, and in case you haven’t perfected the art of rolling a proper burrito (a necessary life skill, people), the fast-casual restaurant throws in a list of 10 steps (!?) to help you — wait for it — “roll a fat one.” Cheesy, no doubt, but also super convenient.
A taco version of the kit was introduced over the summer, so the take-home meal isn’t a first for T-Flats — or other Mexican chains for that matter. Canada’s Mucho Burrito, which operates more than 100 locations, also carries a DIY taco kit, and I’m sure you remember the National Taco Day Gift Set, which bestowed Taco Bell customers with four iconic tacos for $5 in celebration of the October food holiday.
Who knows, though? As convenience continues to dominate in terms of food choices (remember that Outback/Carrabba’s mashup in South Tampa?), maybe restaurant-goers will start seeing more takeout offerings of this ilk in the new year.
