In Tarpon Springs, the revived incarnation of a local landmark has unfortunately closed its doors. Owners John and Cathie Koch, who re-established Tarpon Diner at 217 S. Pinellas Ave. in 2017, made the announcement on social media earlier this week.
"We have permanently closed the Tarpon Diner as of Sunday, October 21," reads the Oct. 22 update to Tarpon Diner's Facebook page.
So, yeah, this is a total bummer.
The original Tarpon Diner, dating back to 1953, offered stalwarts like bacon, eggs and toast. But when chef John transformed the place into his Florida diner, he decided to put an elevated twist on breakfast and lunch with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
The result was playful dishes designed to maintain approachability, including the biscuits and spicy chorizo gravy, double pimento cheeseburger, pumpkin pancakes, and bacon and soft egg ramen. Oh, and who could forget that rotating Benedict special?
"Thank you for all for your business and dedication during the past year. We had a great time creating the updated Diner and appreciate all of you who enjoyed our point of view!" the Facebook post continues. "What we will miss the most is seeing and serving you."
