A sneak-peek tasting event will give Tampa a little sample of what’s to come from the Sandwich House. Slated to open in Seminole Heights in January, the Sandwich House at 5214 N. Nebraska Ave. is the brainchild of Gulf Coast Sourdough & Wild Yeast Breads, a local small-batch bakery founded by Brett Wiewiora and Christina Cann.

The new restaurant’s tasting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1. Guests will enjoy a preview of the space and sandwiches made with freshly baked artisan loaves from Gulf Coast Sourdough, plus sides, beverages and desserts.

“Bread is so much more than just a flavorless vehicle for eating with your hands,” according to a statement from Wiewiora. “It’s the foundational flavor layer of a sandwich — literally the first thing that hits your taste buds — and can enhance or detract from the entire sandwich experience in profound ways.”

Cann added: “So we’re putting our money where our mouth is and opening the Sandwich House.”

Over the last three years, Cann and Wiewiora have been perfecting their elevated sandwich recipes — everything from turkey and cheese on roasted red pepper Parmesan bread to vegan braised tofu on turmeric and black pepper bread.

In addition to chowing down at the tasting, attendees can contribute to the bakery’s Kickstarter campaign, which has reached 20 percent of its $3,000 goal, and meet Donna Craig. The Seminole Heights artist and resident — who owns the Tree Dog Roots food truck and is also the illustrator of recently published children’s book Goodnight Tampa — was tapped to paint an indoor mural for the restaurant.

Guests are asked to reserve their free tickets to the tasting event online in advance.

“We’re excited to invite our great friends and new faces to see what we’re up to,” Cann said. “Come and celebrate with us!”
